- Body

- Glazing
- 5 glass panels sized from the folded body
- Issue
- 2-sheet drawing · DXF flat patterns · STEP · 3D PDF · DWG
The challenge
The tray body, the centre insert and the glass all meet at the same rebates. If the folded body is dimensioned to nominal and the glass is cut to nominal, the glass will not fit after powder-coating adds its film thickness.
The customer needed the job quoted quickly by three different suppliers, which meant the package had to be split cleanly rather than issued as one drawing.
Our approach
The body and centre insert were modelled as 1.5 mm sheet-metal parts with the rebates for the glass built in, and the five glass panels as separate parts sized with a clearance for the coating film. The assembly drawing (sheet 1) shows the finished tray with the parts list; sheet 2 carries the flat patterns of the body and insert.
DXF flat patterns were issued for cutting, a DWG for the customer's records, a STEP of the full assembly and a 3D PDF that the fitter can rotate to see how the glass seats in the rebates.
What was delivered
The sheet-metal shop, coater and glazier each worked from their part of the package and the trays were assembled without trimming the glass.
