Design & Drafting
Medical Equipment Design & Mechanical Engineering Support
Mechanical design, CAD and engineering documentation for medical and laboratory equipment developers — carts and trolleys, enclosures and housings, mounting hardware, laboratory fixtures and design-transfer drawing packages. We work under your quality system and design-control procedures; you remain the legal manufacturer.
Service Overview
A Mechanical Design Partner For Medical Device Teams
Medical device companies carry the regulatory responsibility; what they often lack is mechanical design capacity at the moment a programme needs it. We supply that capacity: experienced mechanical engineers who work inside your templates, numbering, revision and approval workflow, and who produce the models, drawings, calculations and review material your team files in its design history file or technical documentation.
Our scope is the mechanical hardware of medical equipment — the cart, the enclosure, the frame, the fixture, the mechanism — designed with IEC 60601-1 mechanical-hazard requirements in mind (stability, moving parts, trapping zones, mobile-equipment transport) and with sheet-metal, moulding and machining manufacturability built in. Formal testing, risk-management ownership and regulatory submissions stay with you and your accredited partners.
- Medical carts, trolleys and mobile stands with tip-stability calculation and castor selection
- Sheet-metal and injection-moulded enclosures: draft, ribs, snap-fits, cleanability and ingress
- Mounting arms, brackets and frames for monitors, instruments and accessories
- Laboratory automation fixtures, test rigs and diagnostic instrument mechanics
- Design-transfer drawing packages, BOMs, tolerance stack-ups and FEA reports
- Legacy 2D-to-3D conversion and drawing updates for existing equipment (for the rights holder)
What this service is not: We are not ISO 13485 certified and not an FDA-registered establishment; we do not design implants, sterile disposables, drug-delivery or software-led devices, and we do not provide regulatory affairs services.
What's Included

Enclosures & Housings
Sheet-metal and injection-moulded housings with service access, EMC shielding provisions defined by your electrical team, and IP-rated sealing.
Mechanisms & Mounting Hardware
Articulating arms, lifts, latches and positioning mechanisms with force, pinch-point and fatigue checks.
Laboratory & Diagnostic Mechanics
Sample handling fixtures, automation modules and instrument chassis designed to your throughput and accuracy requirements.
Analysis & Verification Inputs
FEA for stability, drop, load and fatigue cases; tolerance stack-ups; calculations formatted as verification inputs for your records.
Design-Transfer Packages
Manufacturing drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions and supplier packs prepared for your design-transfer and purchasing controls.
What We Need From You
Inputs We Work From
Send whatever you have. We list anything missing or ambiguous in a query sheet and agree it with you before modelling starts — nothing is assumed silently.
- Design inputs, user needs or a product requirements document
- Existing concepts, prototypes, reference equipment or legacy drawings
- Your design-control procedures, templates, numbering and revision scheme
- Applicable standards and the markets you target (for example IEC 60601-1 mechanical clauses)
- Interfaces: electronics, displays, cabling, accessories and consumables
- Preferred materials, finishes and manufacturing partners
What You Receive
Deliverables & File Formats
Design records
- Parametric native CAD in SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, Solid Edge or NX
- Design review packs with options, rationale and open items
- Tolerance stack-ups and mechanical calculations as verification inputs
Risk and usability support
- Mechanical hazard inputs (pinch, stability, sharp edges, trapping) for your ISO 14971 risk file
- Ergonomic reach, force and access studies to support your IEC 62366 usability work
- FEA reports for stability, load and fatigue cases
Design transfer
- Manufacturing drawings to ASME Y14.5 or ISO GPS with your title block
- BOMs, assembly instructions and inspection-critical dimensions
- STEP, DXF and PDF supplier packs under your revision control
Native files in your platform and version (older versions on request), plus neutral STEP AP214/AP242, IGES, Parasolid, DXF and PDF as needed.
Standards & Platforms
Drawn To Your Standard, Delivered In Your CAD
We work to the drawing and design standards your market specifies. Editions below are current as of October 2026.
Standards we apply
- IEC 60601-1 (mechanical hazard clauses) — Stability, moving parts, trapping zones and mobile-equipment transport considered in design; compliance testing by your accredited laboratory
- ISO 14971 and IEC 62366-1 — We supply design inputs to your risk-management and usability files; your team owns those files
- FDA QMSR (21 CFR 820, effective 2 Feb 2026) and ISO 13485:2016 — We work under your quality system and purchasing controls as a design-services supplier; we are not certified or registered
- EU MDR 2017/745, UK MHRA, TGA, Health Canada — Documentation prepared to suit your technical-documentation expectations in these markets; you remain the legal manufacturer
- ASME Y14.5-2018 (R2024) / ISO GPS — Drawing and tolerancing standards for design-transfer packages
Native CAD platforms
You receive editable native files, not just exports. We do not advertise platforms we cannot deliver natively.
How The Work Runs
Our Process For This Service
Supplier onboarding
We complete your supplier questionnaire, sign your NDA and quality agreement and adopt your templates and revision workflow.
Design inputs review
Requirements, interfaces and applicable standards are confirmed in a query sheet before concept work begins.
Design and review
Concept and detail design with design-review packs at each gate; FEA and stack-ups as verification inputs.
Transfer and support
Checked drawing packages and BOMs for design transfer; change support under your change-control procedure.
Worked Example
Medical Machine Development
Mechanical development of a medical machine from concept to manufacturing package: chassis and frame design, mechanism layout, enclosure and access design, and the full drawing and BOM set — produced in SolidWorks under the client's templates and revision control.

Three Ways To Work With Us
Every quote states scope, deliverables, formats, standard, revision rounds and deadline. Prices are quoted per project — in USD, EUR, GBP, AUD or INR.
Fixed price per job
Best for defined scopes — a drawing set, a conversion batch, one analysis. You know the total before work starts.
Hourly with a cap
For evolving design work where scope is still forming. Hours are logged, reported weekly and never exceed the agreed cap without your sign-off.
Dedicated engineer
A named engineer reserved for your work, month by month, on your templates and in your CAD — an extension of your own design office.
Confidentiality & IP
Your Designs Stay Yours
NDA before files
We sign your NDA, or send ours, before a single drawing is shared.
IP assigned to you
Models, drawings and calculations are your property on payment. We keep no rights.
Named engineer
Only the engineers on your job can open your files. You deal with them directly.
Deleted on request
Project data is removed from our systems when you ask, with written confirmation.
