Radar Antenna Support Stand: Steel Fabrication

A compact structural job: a steel stand to carry a radar antenna at a set height with a bolted interface for the antenna mount and a base plate for anchoring. Modelled from the client's layout sketch, issued in three iterations as STEP and PDF, and detailed as a weldment the fabricator could cut and weld directly.

The challenge

The antenna supplier specified the mounting interface and the height; everything else — section sizes, bracing, base plate and anchor pattern — had to be decided and drawn quickly, and revised as the client's site constraints changed.

Our approach

The stand was modelled as a SolidWorks weldment of standard sections with a machined top plate matching the antenna bolt pattern and a base plate with slotted anchor holes. Three iterations were issued as the height and bracing were adjusted, each as STEP and a PDF drawing with the cut list, so the fabricator always had the current version.

What was delivered

Stand-3 was released for fabrication with the weldment drawing and cut list; the client reused the model for a second site with a different base plate.

  • SolidWorks weldment model
  • Fabrication drawing with cut list
  • STEP and PDF per iteration

Standards and conventions applied

  • ISO 2553 weld symbols
  • IS 800 structural detailing conventions
