Moulded Intake Duct in Creo with Design-State Data Package

A two-piece moulded intake duct designed in PTC Creo to a written design brief, delivered as a structured data package: the starting state, the completed design, a drawing, STEP exports and annotated screenshots. The brief specified moulding constraints — split plane, draft, bosses and fastener clearance — and every one was checked before release.

The challenge

The client produces engineering datasets and needed a real moulded part designed to a precise brief, in Creo, with the design captured at two defined states and with every constraint of the brief demonstrably satisfied — including a late correction where a bolt clashed with a boss in the mirrored half.

Our approach

The duct was modelled in Creo as a two-piece moulding with the split plane placed on the TOP datum as the brief required, draft applied to all mould-direction faces, flanges with bolt bosses and clearance checked against the fastener models, and the mirrored half built as an independent mirror so corrections on one half propagate correctly.

The deliverable was organised as the client's package: a task-input state and an answer-key state of the assembly, a drawing, AP242 STEP exports, a screenshot set from standard views and a notes file describing the design decisions. The bolt-to-boss clash found in review was corrected and the package reissued with a change note.

What was delivered

The package was accepted at the client's review and used as the basis for further assets in NX. The job is representative of our Creo work: native PRT/ASM/DRW files, structured for the client's process rather than ours.

  • Creo part, assembly and drawing files at two design states
  • AP242 STEP exports
  • Standard-view screenshot set
  • Design notes and change record

Standards and conventions applied

  • Client design brief and naming convention
  • ISO 8015 tolerancing on the drawing
