Model-Based Definition Drawing Packages to ISO GPS

Under a signed MSA and SOW for an international engineering data company, we produced model-based definition packages for machined and cast parts: AP242 STEP with product manufacturing information, a fully toleranced 2D drawing to ISO 8015, and a set of standard-view images. Each package is checked against a written acceptance list before dispatch.

Tolerancing
ISO 8015, ISO 2768-mK, ISO 8062-3 castings

The challenge

Every package had to be complete and self-consistent: datum structure, geometric tolerances, surface finish, material and process notes on the drawing, the same PMI embedded in the STEP, and images that match the drawing views. A single missing datum or an unmatched note fails the client's acceptance list, so the work is as much about checking as drawing.

Our approach

Each part was modelled from the client's brief, then toleranced according to its function: shafts with datum axes on bearing seats, runout on seal faces and keyway position tolerances; the die-cast gearbox housing with ISO 8062-3 DCTG/GCTG grades for as-cast geometry, ISO 2768-mK for machined dimensions, draft and parting-line notes, porosity limits to ISO 10049 on sealing faces and a leak-test note.

PMI was applied in the model and exported in AP242 STEP; the 2D drawing was produced from the same model so views and annotations stay linked; standard-view images were generated to the client's naming. Before dispatch each package was checked line by line against the client's acceptance list and our own checklist, and the check record was kept with the package.

What was delivered

Packages were accepted at the client's review and the programme moved from paid trial to continuing work, with drawing-only tasks (bracket, bell crank, pillow block, pump adapter plate) added to the model-based packages.

  • AP242 STEP files with PMI
  • Fully toleranced drawings to ISO 8015
  • Standard-view image sets
  • Per-package check records

Standards and conventions applied

  • ISO 8015 fundamental tolerancing principle
  • ISO 2768-mK general tolerances
  • ISO 8062-3 casting tolerances
  • ISO 1302 surface texture
