The challenge
The customer wanted a dolly that could be shipped flat and assembled on site, in aluminium to keep the weight down, with castors from a specific catalogue. A welded frame was ruled out, so the joints had to be designed to take racking loads through bolts alone.
Our approach
The frame was modelled as a grid of aluminium sections with lapped, double-bolted joints — 16 M10 hex bolts in all — so each corner is restrained in two directions. The four 100 mm swivel castors were modelled from the catalogue data and their bolt patterns cut into the frame corners.
The assembly drawing carries the parts list (frame, bolts, castors) with the general tolerance table, and the main frame was issued as a separate drawing and 3D PDF so the sections could be cut and drilled before the castors arrived.
What was delivered
The dolly was cut, drilled and assembled from the drawing set; the model is now the customer's template for other platform sizes.
