The challenge
Register between heads is everything in rotary printing. The repeat gearboxes, screen drives and blanket drive must be modelled as one kinematic chain, and the frames must hold the head centres accurately over a machine many metres long. The OEM had a built machine and partial drawings, and needed a complete model to standardise production.
Our approach
The machine was modelled head by head in Solid Edge: each printing head as an assembly with screen bearing, squeegee system and lift, the drive side with the repeat screen head drive and the last and remaining gearbox assemblies, the blanket drive, and the main frames. Standard bearings and drive components were placed from the supplier libraries used by the OEM.
The model was checked against photographs of the built machine, and the drawing set — over 190 sheets — was produced in the OEM's format with assembly drawings, fabricated frame drawings and machined parts for the gearboxes and screen drives.
What was delivered
The OEM has a complete, verified model and drawing set for the 1620 mm machine; longer widths are derived by changing the head width and frame length in the same model.
- Solid Edge assembly of the complete machine
- Assembly and part drawing set (190+ sheets)
- Gearbox and screen drive machining drawings
- Frame fabrication drawings
- STEP of the complete machine
Standards and conventions applied
- OEM drawing template and tolerance table
- ISO 2768 general tolerances
- Gear data tables on repeat gearbox drawings
